Maggie Brown | ‘A Buzzard flies by…’
Friday October 21 – 12 November 2022
‘A Buzzard flies by.. is the theme of this special exhibition of paintings, highlighting the need to share my lifelong love of the countryside and it’s conservation. I am forever hopeful that my paintings can evoke the same feeling in the onlooker; a sense of wellbeing, the importance of being aware, being in the moment and the joy and exhilaration that our beautiful countryside can offer, perhaps even help in its conservation.’

Welsh Art Week is in Newport Pembs in 2022, and we are delighted to show a very varied show with new work from all of our artists, including a new emerging artist from Aberystwyth this year, Saoirse Morgan who achieved her MA in 2021. We will be serving Glyndwr Welsh Wine and Welsh cakes, and are looking forward to seeing many visitors to the gallery again. Do pop in to look at the new collection we are now showing.
Next year we are looking forward to returning to London, and will be hosting Welsh Art Week 2023 in Woolff Gallery in Fitzrovia again.
Tribute: We are very very sad to announce the passing of a great Welsh Artist, Mike Jones. Mike captured our imagination, with his depictions of every day life in the Swansea valleys, and was a gentle and humorous man, who’s character will be hugely missed here at the gallery. Mike’s legacy will remain within all the paintings he worked on, very special moments in his life’s memories, which we were lucky enough to be part of. Mike’s work shows his dedication to presenting to the viewer, the hard working people of his upbringing, who embraced the hardships of life as he remembered it; the steelworker, Mr Price the painter, the reader in the pub with his half pint, shift workers, farmers at the mart, the neighbour’s gossiping, and latterly, harbour wall figures and the waiting room. All poignant reminders of precious moments.
Thank you Mike
