Val Hepplewhite

Val has spent many years painting musicians and artists in Pembrokeshire, and is an established artist in Bath and Bristol. Her work has an intensity of darker colours and subtle brushstrokes, and a calm and muted palette, which works well with her subject matter of musicians in situ, and observations of humanity in general.

Val was born in the west Riding of Yorkshire, in a mining and steelworks area. The heavy industry, and her brother who is a well know violin maker and musician, have hugely influenced her, and we can see this in the strength of her paintings and drawings, which show a combination of power and sensitivity. She studied Art and fashion at the West of England University in Bristol, and went on to study drawing, colour and theory under Ted Jones.
