I grew up on Parc-y-Pratt farm near Cardigan. The atmosphere of the farm, and its surrounding landscape have been a rich source of inspiration; and I’ve always loved drawing animals. I trained in the sixties at Bath Academy Corsham, and the Slade School of Art, followed by a year studying woodblock printing in Japan. For twenty years I had a cottage in Brynberian where I became immersed in painting the Preseli hills, as well as drawing sheep and cows at Llwynihirion Farm.
Where I now live in Presteigne, Powys, I spent the first lockdown walking and sketching sheep. More recently I’ve focused on Jersey cows. These Jerseys have been crossed with black and white Freisian cows and, as well as their expressions, they offer wonderfully bold patterns, shapes and colours. I have had numerous solo exhibitions, both in this country and abroad, and my work is represented in various collections, including the British Museum.
