Alan Braddon

Alan hails originally from the valleys, who after working in the mines from the age of 15, won a place at Newport Art College in the 1970’s. After graduating he went back to work, but continued to draw privately, then picked it up again full time in retirement in the last few years. Alan’s unique approach to graphite and charcoal drawings from memories of his family in the South Wales valleys, comes across so strongly that it’s appeal far outweighs anything else we have seen in this genre. The atmosphere he creates in his work, demonstrates his underlying connection to coal mining, and his intricate artistic competence with such a difficult medium, is extraordinarily compelling.
