Jo Lowde

I grew up in Birmingham but escaped to Pembrokeshire for the summers where I was surrounded by herds of dairy cows and flocks of mountain sheep. After many years in Rodborough Common in Gloucestershire amongst the roaming cattle, I am now back in Pembrokeshire, my work inspired by all these animals.

At about three my father helped me make my first thumb pot mug, which I still use, and I have loved working with clay ever since. I did a Biology degree at Exeter University and then went on to become a solicitor but realised that this was not the career for me. When asked at an appraisal,10 years ago, where I saw myself in 5 years’ time I said Potter or District Judge. I think that I made the right choice.

My work is mainly hand built and fired nearly exclusively using the Raku process.
